Stephen

Hello Blogsphere! I'm Stephen, a 31 years young (yep, just totally used that term) single whitey that claims Pacific Islander on applications and forms (I was born in Guam, it is valid). I have three daughters that are pretty stellar (I’m supposed to say that, right?) to be around.

I have been running for 3.5 years and it has only been within the last year to year and a half that I really started pushing myself to do more than just the standard 5k run. See my "Why We Run" post for further details, or ask. It's mainly due to the wonderfully fantastic people I have found in Oklahoma City. Just brilliant souls I get to share my life with and now with you.

I like to stay active; usually anything outdoors will gain my attention. WAKA Kickball and Social Sports (yes, this exists and it super-fabs) has been another great foot in the door to getting out more than my standard. My open personality allows for quick acceptance and brings a smile to every new face I meet. There are some my personality clashes with, but I steer clear of those types. Not that I wouldn't accept them, it just gets bad.

I try to lead a simple lifestyle and just stay positive in life. Drama can bounce away, "ain't nobody got time for that". I have recently enjoyed seeing a few of my friends get more into running lately. When they ask for tips and guidance, a sense of happiness flows throughout my body (not like that, sick-o). The fact that they see my in that light just brings joy I have never felt. That makes me consider being a life-coach or personal trainer when I get out of the Coast Guard.

Did I not mention that? Yes, I am almost past my decade mark in the smallest branch of the armed forces, the U.S. Coast Guard. I joined to travel and see different parts of the country. I have lived in the small historic town of Natchez, Mississippi (first daughter born) on a buoy tender. We did aids to navigation for tug boats that navigated the waterways. From there I went to food service specialist school in Petaluma, California. That was a pretty stellar three months that took me to a tiny lobster town way up the coast of Maine called Jonesport (second daughter born). I got completely ruined by fresh lobster and clams. After that tour I traveled across the waters to Guam (third daughter born, and me 26 years prior) where I was independent duty food service officer on-board a 110' boat. Saw some pretty cool islands and sights: Saipan, Palau, Chukk, Yap, and Australia (vacation which is way better than a work port call).  After leaving year round heat I traveled to Duluth, MN which I loved (still do) and my running journey initially began.

Now I am here in Oklahoma City as a recruiter for the Coast Guard (want to join?) and it has been quite the adventure within itself. Wouldn't change any part of anywhere or anything I have done. It has made me who I am today. One of the most patient and positive people you will ever encounter. I look forward to seeing how this blog takes off and grows.

Let our journey begin together. Better hold on (or don't, sometimes it is more fun) it's going to be fantabulously marvelous.

Now you know me and in more detail more than you expecting; now who are you?

Stephen.
